Micah has an amazing attitude when it comes to "wanting" toys and things. Don't get me wrong, I am not saying he's perfect in this area...every now and then he WILL ask for something, but for the most part he is a pretty content little fellow and asks for very little.
This week we were doing some routine shopping and I had to pick up a few little clothing items, one of them being a hat for Micah. He has outgrown the summer hat that he had and I wanted to make sure that he had one for the upcoming summer season. I pointed him to the area of hats and told him to pick one out. He looked at me trying hard to fight a huge smile. I could tell he was very happy at the collection of baseball caps he was staring at. He quickly picked one out. I asked him if he wanted me to put it in the cart to which he responded, "Can I just carry it?" After that point he never put it down. We got home and Micah was SOOOOO excited to show his new hat to Daddy. One problem though, Daddy was at class for the evening and wouldn't return until after their bedtime.
I explained this to Micah but he was VERY excited about his new hat and seemed optimistic that Daddy would return home earlier than usual this evening.
He literally checked every 5-10 minutes...watching for Daddy to come home.
Bedtime came and Micah went through the usual routine still optimistic that Daddy would return early enough to see his new hat. I put him in bed, hat in hand. He asked me if I could tell Daddy to come in his room when he got home...you know, so he could show him his new hat. Well, Daddy did come home that evening right on schedule and by the time he went into Micah's room, he was sound asleep...still with his hat in his hand.
So, the next morning we woke up to a gentle whisper, "Hey Daddy, look at my new hat!"
